![]() ![]() Turning on NC mode immersed me in my Spotify playlist and silenced much of the environmental fracas of New York's Midtown, from police sirens to street construction. As an impatient listener, I'm incessantly changing records and was thrilled that I could do this effortlessly, without the controls going haywire. You double-tap the sensor to play/pause or answer/end a call, swipe left/right to skip or play a previous track, and swipe up/down to manage volume levels. Finger-swipes and tap gestures control calls and media playback. The touch panel is a smooth operator that executes commands flawlessly. The headphones are bulkier than most other ANC models, but carrying or stashing them in the portable case isn't burdensome. You'll need to play with the extenders to ensure steady placement, because when aligning either side, setting them a notch larger causes slippage. The WH-1000XM3 headphones are ideal for long-term listening, but they don't provide the snuggest fit. These ear cups are more pleasant than the QC35 II's and didn't bother me, even after several hours of use. The inside of the cups has been altered as well, with a larger, oval shape to accommodate bigger ears. The padding is thicker and rests gently on the ears and head without adding extra pressure. Sony made some generous upgrades to the headband and ear cups for improved comfort. ![]() The good news is that these headphones support a relaxed fit and don't have much heft, thanks to the breathable aesthetics incorporated into the design. So, for now, I have to start each bike ride by putting in my headset, and then open the App to disable the setting again, unless I would like a long ride of static noise in my ears. The slider is set to the lowest level, but it is still enough for it to pick up the wind noise very noticeably. With the Sound Ambient Control on, this causes the mic to pick up a lot of wind noise, so I can barely hear my audio at all.So naturally, I just turn off Sound Ambient Control in the "Headphones" app.ĮXCEPT: whenever I put the headset into the dock and take them back out (turn off and back on again) the Sound Ambient Control is turned on again. This include some wind hitting the side of the headset. However, one thing is driving me slowly crazy:I use the headset when riding my bike to work. The audio is good and after a bit of fiddling with the foam sizes, I got it to sit nicely in my ears. ![]()
